Bonjour Project – Day 23

Hi there! πŸ™‚

1. #SOTD Versace – Crystal Noir (edt)

A little yum yum, or obtrusive at all… just a gentle fruity, flowery touch to my skin… very versatile and wearable at all occasions πŸ™‚ lasted on me all day, which I’m also very pleased about… πŸ™‚

2. Little discoveries of the day

A very much by accident I dropped into a chocolate factory RΕ«ta in Siauliai.. πŸ™‚ well, it’s museum, to be exact πŸ™‚ I’d say it is the most fragrant museum I’ve ever been to so far πŸ˜€ milk chocolate and cream follows you everywhere … πŸ™‚ ❀ learnt some nice facts about chocolate and the museum itself. For example, I didn’t know it is the oldest chocolate factory in Lithuania πŸ™‚ they also had a little display of the candy wrappers, which brought some sweet memories from my childhood πŸ™‚ loved the visit, highly recommended! πŸ™‚

Another little trip was to the concert hall SaulΔ—, which years ago used to be the largest cinema in the city. Today I watched the Improvisation Theatre – Kitas Kampas (‘Another Angle’). I had a blast! They are a fantastic team, great actors, and really worked well with the audience πŸ™‚ No wonder why their tickets sell out so quickly πŸ™‚

3. Something to be thankful for

Today the politicians finally decided to up the payments for every child in a Lithuanian family… and that’s 30-50 euros per month… And I still cannot figure out how people survive on the average wage of 5-600 e per month… A lot of them emigrate, some of them however comeback.. In the theatre, art and photography exhibitions, during culture programs and discussions on tv, I noticed the change… As this moving affects the country from the cultural aspect as well… The ones that do comeback, they seem to bring a load of new ideas, experiences, they gladly share them… I see the difference in plays, people’s attitude on streets, even shop assistants… It took me a very long time to finally understand that the Lithuanians are actually nice and caring people… they might not smile as much but there’s so much goodness in each one of them… even the grumpiest lady at the ticket office will smile back at you if you talk to her like to a friend… The situation in Vilnius is so much different from let’s say Siauliai, as the capital is full of tourists, more often you can hear talking English, German, Spanish… And the women are more fashionably dressed.. obviously, there is more money in the city, the average wage there reaches 7-800 e per month… whereas in Siauliai the situation is a little bit different…

I am thankful for the people of Lithuania.. the ones that stayed, and the ones that left the country… that transition was inevitable but also very necessary…

Or maybe the only thing that changed was my attitude towards them?…

Love, J.

Bonjour Project – Day 23

Bonjour Project – Day 20

My dear beautiful people,

Today I would like to tell you a little bit about my new discovery – the perfume brand Dorin. This is a very historical perfume house, creating also powders and creams for Versailles since 1780…

I have discovered it very much by accident at one of Kristiana stores, while sniffing never before seen perfumes.. Their bottles are very attractive and quite different from others.. so are their scents.. πŸ™‚

So that day I sniffed the very first one that attracted my eye, Un Air d’Amour Pour Madame. And I could not describe it to you, unfortunately, as I could only carry with me the feeling it had raised inside… This perfume for me associates with a very pleasant lady from my early childhood.. maybe an aunt, or mum’s friend.. I just remember the cozy feeling, the warmth, and that balsamic spicy sweetness… it is amazing how powerful the window of memory is, with the help of a scent transporting you to the worlds long long forgotten…

Another day I went into the Kristiana store in Gediminas avenue, just to give Pour Madame another go.. unfortunately they didn’t have this particular scent in store, but I got to try Dorina… πŸ™‚ now a feeling was completely different – I have never got that much powder in my nose in one go ever before πŸ™‚ oh my!! Pure iris…an amazing quality purple powder!! I was instantly transported to a theatre, behind the stage, into powder rooms, where curtains are heavy and velvety, dark…and I could nearly see it all with my eyes closed, all I needed was to keep sniffing Dorina

I was a little bit more clever that day, and got to spray some of this beauty on my wrist, as well as on a blotter… πŸ˜‰

And when I was about to say goodbye to the store assistant, she casually pointed at another perfume made by Dorin… it was standing on its own beside a very fancy golden case, covered in a huge glass box… Enter Izolda…

Have you heard of Izolda?… She is the wife of the owner of Kristiana; a very well-off gentleman from Lithuania, who gave his wife this incredible gift of creating the perfume she loved; all for their 20th anniversary… and Maison Dorin helped this fragrance come to life…

It is a beautiful, well balanced, sweet and gentle scent, with woody notes.. If you would like to know in person what Izolda smells like, do visit Kristiana on Gediminas avenue. This exclusive perfume is available in this store only… πŸ™‚ and talk about exclusive – with only 200 copies of this gem, it should definitely intrigue you… πŸ˜‰

There’s an interview with Mrs.Izolda in last year’s February issue of Moteris magazine.

And tomorrow I might as well look for another Kristiana store, just in case I discover something new again…

Goodnight.

Bonjour Project – Day 20

Bonjour Project – Day 19

Hello my lovelies,

Today Vilnius lit up the Christmas tree πŸ™‚ there was a beautiful concert, very many local music stars came on stage, and the whole cathedral square was filled with people πŸ™‚ even with rain and occasional snow, the atmosphere was very cozy. It felt like the whole huge family came together to celebrate this event πŸ™‚

Today has also been a day for donations. The collections from IΕ‘sipildymo Akcija will be for the children in need. People were invited to donate during the concert and also live program on tv. It was an emotional evening, as different stories about Lithuanian children were shown on tv and on screens during the concert. Especially one moment was very memorable when the presenter of the concert brought a little boy on stage, named Milanas πŸ™‚ Milanas was not able to walk. However, thanks to this donation event and the money collected last year, he stood up and kicked a ball off the stage this evening! πŸ™‚

I’m so humbled watching people gather together and give the last few quid they have, all for the better good, for the results like Milanas’ treatment, and very many more… because the best for us adults is a joyous laugh of a child…

P.s. the Christmas market is open every day up until the first week of January, 2018. Don’t forget to try the hot wine and icing sugar coated mini doughnuts… πŸ˜‰

Bonjour Project – Day 19

Bonjour Project – Day 17 & 18

Dear fragrance friends,

With a joyful heart I am returning to you after a couple of days. They were filled with loads of mini trips, exciting visits to fragrant stores / markets, and also a few history / culture related tours.. πŸ™‚

1. #SOTD – I was indeed bouncing in between the Salvador Dali perfume (you may find a little review on it in a previous blog post, from Day 16) and Love, Chloe. Dali tends to disappear off my skin in a few hours, and I felt like applying it again and again.. However, it sits really cozy with me in the evening, when I am relaxing at home after a nice hot shower… So, it is definitely not a loud perfume. Rather gentle and very very well blended… πŸ™‚ ❀

2. Little discoveries of the day

At one end of Gediminas ave., a very wide and very central street in the heart of Vilnius, there is a building of great historical significance to all Lithuanians – the Parliament, called Seimas. It is a place where the current government of the country resides, but it had also played a very important role during the fight for independence from the Soviet Union in 1990-91. I had an opportunity to visit a little glass house just beside Seimas – the memorial for tragic events that happened on 13th January, 1991. This construction is a tiny museum. It covers the barricades that had surrounded the parliament, displays photographs taken during that year, and also children’s drawings. It was quite a memorable moment for me, taking those steps back in time… as I myself remember drawing tanks, TV tower, fight for freedom themes at primary school… And that little glass building is curated by a very pleasant elderly gentleman, who holds and shares all the knowledge and experience of those times, and who has the warmest smile…

At the other end of Gediminas ave, there is the Vilnius Cathedral with the Bell Tower just beside it. I finally climbed up to the very top of the tower πŸ™‚ This was a very pleasant visit, as it had just started snowing when I got in… Here are some pictures πŸ™‚

You can visit the tower every day, except Sundays and Public Holidays. And the cost of the ticket is only 4.50 euros.

Lastly, I have paid a little visit to Panorama shopping center and was very pleasantly surprised to see a huge Christmas market, with stalls displayed on two floors. Items for sale vary so much, and anyone with even the most elaborate taste would find something of interest. It was lovely to see a lot of hand made jewellery, perfumed oils, soaps, woolly blankets, knitted socks, home aromas; also smoked meat and fish produce, sweet cheese made of aged stewed apples with different spices, and of course – honey! – our Lithuanian gold πŸ™‚ It is impossible to mention all the goodness and describe the atmosphere, so a visit to Panorama is a must πŸ™‚ The market is open every single day up until 30th December, 2017.

3. Something to be thankful for

I have experienced very mixed emotions during these days… and every single day I am re-discovering my birth country from a different angle, with a different light… I didn’t realize how patriotic the Lithuanians were, until just recently.. I didn’t know how much pain, but also joy, and passion resides here… how much soul… I am retracing my steps and am uncovering the love for this beautiful country in Northern Europe.

Bonjour Project – Day 16

Dear friends,

Here’s just a little taster of a jewel that I recently discovered in Kristiana in Vilnius.

#SOTD – Dali by Salvador Dali πŸ™‚

Dali by Salvador Dali | photo by BonjourPerfume

It is the first fragrance by Dali, created in the 1983. This is a perfectly balanced scent, created for his muse Gala, the love of his life.

It is so balsamic, creamy, and powdery.. At first I was nearly afraid of it, of that deep yellow/ brown juice… but what a lovely bouquet of flowers hit me at an instant, with a well distinguishable lilly of the valley and jasmine.. changing into so many other notes, aldehydes, that I was just sniffing and sniffing my wrist trying to recognize them all… πŸ™‚

I woke up this morning with a light creamy whiff of Dali on my skin… and I will give it ago for a second day… It is a perfect winter scent, there’s so much depth to it… πŸ™‚

Bonjour Project – Day 16

Bonjour Project – Days 14 & 15

Time flies enormously fast. Every single moment is of such value these days that I can barely hold on to this train. At the same time it feels like I’ve been writing this blog for two months already, and only because of the title these posts I can actually base myself.. Two full weeks. What have I discovered? What have I learnt?..

1. #SOTD Patchouli Intense by Parfums de Nicolai. Needed something to ground myself.. And I really don’t know why I think patchouli fragrances should have the stabilizing effect.. but for me they do…

I have also wandered into Douglas today just to test few perfumes. The ones that caught my eye (and nose) were: Tom Ford – Noir Pour Femme, Hermes – 24 Faubourg, and Molinard – Rose Emois. All very different..allΒ  worth a siff or a skin test, at least…

2. Little discoveries of the day

Great news – from today some 80 coffee shops, restaurants, hotels in Vilnius are organizing Free Coffee Sunday mornings for the Seniors. People get to meet up, make new friends, sing a song or two together. I think it is a wonderful idea, as socializing in Lithuania differs from Ireland. On the Island people are more used to this, they are more chatty, go out more often. Whereas here in Lithuania, people tend to be more reserved, they wouldn’t start talking to a stranger just for the sake of talking, even about the weather… So, a free coffee morning – a beautiful step to bridge people together.

3. Something to be thankful for

I had my last day at the theatre today. I have had an amazing time with the girls, and am grateful for this given opportunity to test myself, to improve my language and customer service skills, and also for the chance to watch few plays, as a little reward.. The people who work there behind the scenes preparing, organizing, managing everything what a customer doesn’t get to see – they are a wonderful bunch of honest, hard working, and truly artistic and talented people. I has been an honor to spend the time with them. Thank you, Vilniaus Mazasis Teatras πŸ™‚

P.S. If you are ever in Vilnius on Sunday morning / afternoon, check the theatre’s repertoire for children plays. These could be the two hours in your life that bring you joy and laughter, as there is always something of value for adults, too..

Bonjour Project – Days 14 & 15

Bonjour Project – Day 13

Hello my dear friends,

Today has been a lucky day πŸ˜‰

1. #SOTD – a mixture of very many The Merchant of Venice perfumes, but at the end I layered my scarf with Lyric from Amouage… just because it was there on a shelf, staring at me… and now I feel it everywhere… it is my favorite fragrance from this brand.. πŸ™‚

2. Little discoveries of the day

So the big Black Friday has arrived and, I must say, the traffic in the city was just nuts… all the shopping centers covered with people and discounts… and, depending on a store, this madness is more than likely to continue through out the weekend… My only advice – arm yourselves with patience! πŸ™‚

As planned, I finally went to Akropolis – one of the biggest shopping centers in Vilnius. Douglas is the only cosmetics and perfume store there stocking The Merchant of Venice – the brand I always wanted to try.

They have the Murano collection in store and online and they have just received the Murano Exclusive! So there’s double the satisfaction for the lovers of this brand! I can say, Rococo is really worth starting with, it’s delicious and seductive… πŸ˜‰ I also liked the other three – Rosa Moceniga, Flower Fusion, and Byzantium Saffron, which are from the Murano collection. All in all, I would love to have any of them just for the bottle – it is beyond cute! ❀

3. Something to be thankful for

I had my second training session at Shaolin Lithuania… it was nice to see the friendliness of the team, how they all treat each other like equal, with respect and gratitude. And that’s from 3 to 30+ year olds … πŸ™‚ you feel like you’re among best friends the very first time you walk in there.. Thank you, Shaolin Lithuania, for changing the lives of the future generation in the country, thank you for bringing them discipline and correct attitude towards the World in front of them…

Pay them a visit whenever you’re around πŸ™‚ classes take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I can assure you, you won’t regret it πŸ™‚

Enjoy your weekend!
