Bonjour Project – Day n

Dear friends,

I hope this blog post finds you well.. and whatever troubles you are experiencing, they are not unbearable.. keep up the good spirits, and never lose hope…

1. My #SOTD was Dali EDP by Salvador Dali.. I am so happy with its trail and longevity, and the whole fragrant cocktail of flowers, aldehydes and amber … 10/10 πŸ™‚

2. Little discoveries of the day

I went for a little walk and, just round the corner from the place I’m staying, I found a tiny cafe / shop Lila. And it’s a Vegetarian / Vegan bakery! πŸ™‚ I was so pleasantly surprised to see a huge selection of sweets in display and soups on the menu, also a lovely range of cooking / yoga books, Himalayan salt lamps, and incense sticks for sale. I got some sweets and samosas to try at home, and I must say, I love their vegan oatmeal cookies already πŸ™‚ ❀ And I also bought a vegetarian cookbook in Lithuanian – can’t wait to read the recipes πŸ™‚ Pay Lila a visit whenever you’re in Ε iauliai, I’m sure this place won’t disappoint you πŸ™‚

3. Something to be thankful for

Another pleasant surprise was on tv today. A doctor was advising people what to do or not do during winter time, how to not catch a cold, and keep the body healthy… and in the middle of it he started explaining the benefits of meditation, how to do simple breathing exercises, and also talked about the power of positive thinking… I’ve never heard a doctor do so openly on tv… and I am so happy that it is being said, because there are so many elderly people, whose only joy in life is watching that tiny box, believing to the majority of things that come out of it… so, I think, the more of the real good news on tv, the better…

Here are some pictures from my day in town today πŸ™‚

Bonjour Project – Day 30

Hi all,

1. #SOTD Versace – Eros Pour Feme EDT

Well, to be honest, I cannot even say that I am still wearing this perfume, as in just one hour or so it disappeared from my wrist as if it has never even been there…. All I got after spritzing it was a gentle, generic, sweet fruity scent.. a touch of orange and maybe some magnolia, jasmine… the next time I wanted to sniff it again – it was already gone! 😦 …maybe during a hot summer day it might reveal its magic, but summer is soooo far away that I am not even sure if I will remember to dig that sample out… personally, the original aquatic EDP version is way better… Sorry Versace, I am beginning to lose hope… πŸ™‚

2. Little discoveries of the day / 3. Something to be thankful for

I took a stroll down the most famous street in Ε iauliai – Vilniaus st. At the moment a part of it is under reconstruction, so I only walked the bright and cheerful part πŸ™‚ I am thankful to the town council for they left the most memorable parts of this street untouched, like e.g. the little statues where 20-30 years ago a pharmacy or a flower shop used to be; or the fountains and other sculptures..

I invite you to take a look at some pictures from my home town… πŸ™‚

Bonjour Project – Day 30

Bonjour Project – Day 29

Hello my lovelies,

the project month is nearly over.. and tonight I am trying out something I thought was going to be lily-of-the-valley-like, but turned out to be a very very different scent πŸ™‚

1. #SOTN Amouage – Myths Woman

With the very first spritz I got such a punch to my nostrils! Green herbal oils with a touch of aniseed! So earthy and heady! ..Half an hour later, I am still getting very pungent herbal, mossy scent; some carnation-like green flower… And if I don’t stick my nose too close to the skin, I can distinguish more gentle leathery, musky, patchouli notes… Let me get back to you in another half hour and see what the base notes are like… πŸ™‚

2. Little discoveries of the day

I was pleased to hear on the news today that the wages and pensions for Lithuanians from next year will increase…by 10-30 euros per month… but still! There is an increase! Include a 30 euro payment per child per family, and we are getting something I haven’t seen the government do for a while – they are preparing 200 mln budget for these payments, instead of the original 75 mln..

Another interesting piece of news that I picked up today on tv was a little reportage about homeless people in Lithuania, who have sold literally everything they owned in order to buy more alcohol; houses, apartments, land, family savings, last pieces of clothes, everything.. Back in Soviet times, every alcoholic and drug addict was forced to go through detox, now it is all voluntary unless the person is causing danger to society.Β Social workers are trying to change the law, help the people so that at least they would not become homeless… However, every single one of those people that were interviewed, said…. nothing will change if the person is not willing to change… And I could not agree more… I can only hope – the ones that do realize this will find that strength and desire to change…

And on a more happy note, as the festive frenzy is just round the corner, shopping centers and supermarkets are going to nuts to attract every single customer. In Lithuania the big dinner and family gathering is on Christmas Eve, 24th December.

Rimi supermarket magazine for Christmas | photo by BonjourPerfume

All the dishes are meat-free, there are mainly salads, mushroom pates, baked white fish, and very many different variations of herring πŸ™‚ As this is considered Advent according to Christians, and none of chocolate / heavy cakes would be allowed before the Christmas day, Lithuanians have a very olden traditional dishes – a drink called ‘poppy seed milk’ πŸ™‚ and special Christmas cookies made with flour, poppy seeds, and milk or water πŸ™‚ I remember milling poppy seeds at home when I was small, mixing them with sugar, and a spoonful of the poppy mass with slightly cooled boiling water used to be a very fun drink πŸ™‚ My mum would always warn me not to drink more thank two cups so I wouldn’t get dizzy πŸ˜€ A handful of Christmas cookies (‘Kūčiukai’) in a cup with poppy seed milk (‘aguonΕ³ pienas’) used to be a meal on its own πŸ™‚ So, seemingly now you can buy already pre-milled poppy seeds for your poppy milk drink in supermarkets! πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see my husband’s reaction when he tries it for the first time…… πŸ˜€

3. Something to be thankful for

I helped one girl to find a train station today.. After spending some time with her, and after she was safely on her way home, I was so glad I met her…. I have been scattered for the past few days, and today’s event brought me so much clarity in my own life… It brought me silence and peace; different understanding, appreciation, harmony…

Just few moments before meeting her I thought – I have had a little job in Vilnius and I didn’t go looking for it here in Siauliai… Seconds later, I am on my way helping a stranger…

Good night, my dear… ❀

P.S. Myths Woman is settling down to a more peaceful patchouli – leather earthy base…. Not a very traditional Amouage but still a perfume with vary many faces, and worth exploring….

Bonjour Project – Day 29

Bonjour Project – Day 27 & 28

My dear friends,

Today I am very happy to share with you another new discovery from Latvia – cosmetics brand Stenders. I stumbled across their store when just casually walking around a shopping center Galerija Centrs, located just at the heart of the old town of Riga.

Stenders has started their business in 2001 creating exclusive soaps, inspired by Northern nature. And I love their idea and philosophy as Gardeners of Feelings.

Stenders have a lot of stores around the World, but do come check out their e-shop, too, as they also deliver their products globally.

And another discovery of the day – The Hill of Crosses. This place is one of a kind in Lithuania, and there are only a few of them around the World. It is a site for Christian Pilgrims, mainly. But also a place where people (from different backgrounds and cultures and countries) come to celebrate their wedding day, they bring a cross and ask God for health and protection for their family; it is a place where people come to pray for themselves and for the betterment of humanity. This hill is standing in the middle of nowhere, and you would think it is on the edge of the world, but having spent there an hour, I was amazed by the amount of cars and buses of tourists pulling up at the car park… Saint Pope John Paul II visited the Hill of Crosses just after the Lithuanian Independence in 1993. I remember watching it on TV, with crowds of people gathered up for this exceptional event… I think his visit has brought hope to the Lithuanians as, after the Russian oppression, the first 5-10 years of Independence were the toughest…

I would like to share with you a collection of photos I took in Riga, and also a few from my visit to the Hill of Crosses.

P.S. After a very very breezy and freezing visit to the Hill of Crosses, I can definitely say I appreciated a simple cappuccino from a coffee dispenser machine even more… as at that moment, it honestly was the most amazing coffee I have ever had… πŸ™‚ ❀

Bonjour Project – Day 23

Hi there! πŸ™‚

1. #SOTD Versace – Crystal Noir (edt)

Versace - Crystal Noir | photo by BonjourPerfume

A little yum yum, or obtrusive at all… just a gentle fruity, flowery touch to my skin… very versatile and wearable at all occasions πŸ™‚ lasted on me all day, which I’m also very pleased about… πŸ™‚

2. Little discoveries of the day

A very much by accident I dropped into a chocolate factory RΕ«ta in Siauliai.. πŸ™‚ well, it’s museum, to be exact πŸ™‚ I’d say it is the most fragrant museum I’ve ever been to so far πŸ˜€ milk chocolate and cream follows you everywhere … πŸ™‚ ❀ learnt some nice facts about chocolate and the museum itself. For example, I didn’t know it is the oldest chocolate factory in Lithuania πŸ™‚ they also had a little display of the candy wrappers, which brought some sweet memories from my childhood πŸ™‚ loved the visit, highly recommended! πŸ™‚

Another little trip was to the concert hall SaulΔ—, which years ago used to be the largest cinema in the city. Today I watched the Improvisation Theatre – Kitas Kampas (‘Another Angle’). I had a blast! They are a fantastic team, great actors, and really worked well with the audience πŸ™‚ No wonder why their tickets sell out so quickly πŸ™‚

3. Something to be thankful for

Today the politicians finally decided to up the payments for every child in a Lithuanian family… and that’s 30-50 euros per month… And I still cannot figure out how people survive on the average wage of 5-600 e per month… A lot of them emigrate, some of them however comeback.. In the theatre, art and photography exhibitions, during culture programs and discussions on tv, I noticed the change… As this moving affects the country from the cultural aspect as well… The ones that do comeback, they seem to bring a load of new ideas, experiences, they gladly share them… I see the difference in plays, people’s attitude on streets, even shop assistants… It took me a very long time to finally understand that the Lithuanians are actually nice and caring people… they might not smile as much but there’s so much goodness in each one of them… even the grumpiest lady at the ticket office will smile back at you if you talk to her like to a friend… The situation in Vilnius is so much different from let’s say Siauliai, as the capital is full of tourists, more often you can hear talking English, German, Spanish… And the women are more fashionably dressed.. obviously, there is more money in the city, the average wage there reaches 7-800 e per month… whereas in Siauliai the situation is a little bit different…

I am thankful for the people of Lithuania.. the ones that stayed, and the ones that left the country… that transition was inevitable but also very necessary…

Or maybe the only thing that changed was my attitude towards them?…

Love, J.

Bonjour Project – Day 23

Bonjour Project – Day 21

Good evening my dear friends,

It is really hard to believe it’s my 21st post.. time flies! πŸ™‚ and I still haven’t tried all the different foods here πŸ™‚ and don’t get me started on perfume! πŸ™‚

1. #SOTD E.Coudray – Nohiba. Love it’s smokiness.. it felt like smoke on my skin today… cleared the head and helped me feel more assertive.. what a great and versatile fragrance!

2. Little discoveries of the day

Lithuania is ready with upcoming Christmas! Look what I’ve found at the post office! πŸ™‚ and what’s even more exciting, they smell of gingerbread when you rub them ! πŸ˜€ fantastic idea, and something even more to look forward to πŸ™‚

Fragrant stamps from Lithuania | photo by BonjourPerfume

Also, I had a quick sniff in Kristiana in Siauliai (it is located at a huge shopping center Akropolis in the south part of the Sun City). Three picks of the day, and don’t ask me why… because I wouldn’t know.. πŸ˜€

Xerjoff in Kristiana magazine | photo by BonjourPerfume

* Xerjoff – Lira

Beautiful. Soft. Cake. Vanilla cake.

* Xerjoff – Kind of Blue

Fresh. Attractive. Loneliness. A mix of men-women-bar-club-music-dance-party-.. it did not remind me of a happy jazz.. it’s more something..kind of..blue…

* Guerlain – Shalimar (edp)

I dig it – ‘let me leave this world of sentient beings’.. This is something from out there. This is something like… ‘I’ve been there. And then I’ve seen it all. And when I returned to this world, there is nothing that could entice me anymore’… This is absolute.

3. Something to be thankful for

On a journey of self discovery there is no exams. There is no good or bad.. And they don’t teach this subject at school.. There are only two things – hard work and discipline. That is being honest with yourself and taking responsibility for your own actions. Every step of the way πŸ™‚ It took me a very long time to realize that the work is continuous! There are no magic pills, no quick fixes, no one-day meditation sessions.. there is only honest hard work, dedication, consistency… And only then stars align and magic happens πŸ™‚ ❀

Sleep tight, dear friends..

Bonjour Project – Day..6?

Hello beautiful humans..

It has been rather an eventful day today but, what concerns fragrance, I had made a mistake on choosing Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens as my

1. #SOTD.

Serge Lutens for today | photo by BonjourPerfume

I woke up around 5am and felt like Miss Dior Le Parfum… but it must have been too early or God know for what reason I went for Feminite du Bois… Do not get me wrong, it is a lovely perfume! However, it didn’t give me pleasure or excitement that I was expecting, purely due to its longevity and sillage.. Dior’s Le Parfum would have done the job, mainly because it is one of my favourites and I know it… Well,Β I’ve made my choice and had to deal with the consequences….Β I will give Feminite du Bois another go at some stage, maybe on a more quite, romantic day… πŸ˜‰

2. Little discoveries of the day

#Siauliai | photo by BonjourPerfume

Milk in Lithuania tastes different from one in Ireland.. It is way sweeter and not as tart…

I was passing by a chocolate factory in my hometown…and it definitely does not smell the same as it used to when I was growing up…

But the hospitality of a Lithuanian family is still the same great. There’s a table already set with the best china on it at your arrival. There’s the best homemade cake on it, too. And then the conversation just flows naturally because you know you’re welcomed there…

3. Something to be thankful for

I took two train rides today and, as the wifi was acting up, I was quite happy to put all the gadgets away and open a book…. Not a kindle… An actual book πŸ™‚ …This rarely happens, and I sometimes forget how much I can be attached to technology… I am thankful today for the simple things in life. Simple, yet powerful.

Also, I am beginning to realize, the more kindness and generosity I notice around me and start feeling thankful for it, the more it multiplies…. Could this be a magic trick?.. πŸ™‚ ❀

4. #SOTN

Finally, I am closing this day with another fragrance from Serge Lutens – Ambre Sultan… Just a beautiful dry, balsamic amber to fix the first misfortune… It worked πŸ™‚
