Weekend with Nejma

With one eclipse behind us and another one on the way, the time in between feels rather tense and sensitive, yet buzzing, even sizzling!

And I am kicking off this February properly – with three new serums from a French niche brand Nejma Collection. Their perfumes are inspired by the Far East and the Oriental Fairy tale about a beautiful, radiant woman called Nejma and her love story. Hence, the name Nejma meaning Lucky Star.

Today I would like to introduce you to Nejma 7, Le Parfum D’Alice, and Le Delicieux.

The other day I shoved a chocolate-coconut cake into the oven and went off to try out the Nejma 7 on my skin. This beauty is one of the seven sisters in the Oud Collection – one of the seven different fragrances based on Oud. So, here I was, rocking Sister Seven, enjoying the freshness of citrus at the beginning, quietly listening how it will develop on my wrist, when a bomb of cacao and coconut hit me! There was so much happiness in this gourmand juice! …and then the timer for the cake went off πŸ˜€ I literary could not believe the weirdest and most delicious coincidence πŸ˜€ Yep, my kitchen and my wrist smelled so alike!

..Nejma 7 is a wonderfully sweet and joyful fragrance, developing really nicely on the skin. Oudy patchouli helps to calm it a little bit for the evening, so the dry-down is purely divine…

Le Parfum D’Alice is my most favourite one from the trio.. It accompanied me through the whole day today and there was never a dull moment. Every time I sniffed my wrist, I was experiencing something totally new.. Every time…

The composition of this fragrance to me is a true masterpiece.. It firstly blossomed on my skin with a bunch of fruits and berries. The next thing I new, the juicy sweetness was blending with joyful peonies and roses…

During the day I felt was like I was at a party, the Mad Hatter’s party πŸ™‚ And there was Alice – like the best friend – laughing, smiling, dancing with me, running wild or just staying still, and watching birds fly by…

And slowly, over time, when the base notes started appearing, I was yet again pleasantly surprised, calmed and re-freshened with touches of vetiver and my beloved patchouli… Funnily enough, I still could not figure out the last addition to this beauty – something known to the very core…but so so quiet…so gentle…like a whiff of warm woody aroma coming from very far away… like a dream that slowly dissipates from your memory upon waking up…leaving just a trail of softly pleasant feeling.Β Cognac oak barrel… What a surprise!

And finnaly, I am closing the night with this sweet juice in a white bottle – the delightfully delicious Le Delicieux.

It is so lovely and comforting.. It reminds me of warm sunny evenings in spring, walks on the beach.. sand running through my toes..

And mandarins, loads of mandarins!… πŸ™‚

Even the coldest beaches in Ireland can transform into something cozy, warming, magical..

Oh, sweet vanilla!

(…There’s a sudden cold gust of wind out of nowhere… So playful! Patchouli?… Sneaky!…)

Then again I am back to soft caramel and touches of rose, like diving into fluffy clouds…

Let me just stay there in that beautiful candy-pink dream…

Good night, beautiful people!… Sweet dreams…

On another note, if you fancy a good read (probably with another cup of tea… πŸ™‚ ), I have found this very interesting interview with Nejma’s perfumer Alice Lavenat. It is fascinating to know a little bit more about the person behind the fragrance, their background, their reasons for certain choices, etc. Definitely worth the read πŸ™‚

P.S. As there is no official stockist for Nejma in Ireland just yet, ordering online from their own website is as easy πŸ™‚ http://nejmacollection.com/shop/

P.S.S. A huge thank you to the team behind Nejma Collection for the perfume samples.Β I truly enjoyed getting to know this Lucky Star πŸ™‚ ❀

Weekend with Nejma

Oud Journey – Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Hello my darlings!

I have been on a roller coaster for the past few months.. But that hasn’t stopped me from trying out new perfumes. It probably was the most sane / realistic / true-to-myself action by the end of 2016.

Today I want to share withΒ you my first steps into the world of oud fragrances. This is a relatively new concept to me – I have heard about them, tried some, but never got to like anything from this range. Mainly because it is so different from what I am used to… Well, until now. Whatever was floating in the air recently just hit me with this need for oud wood. And the more I tried, the more I got hooked…

My Oud Journey starts with Maison Francis Kurkdjian. The fragrance house offers a selection of five very different and mysterious compositionsΒ inspired by the Orient, using natural oud wood from Laos. And today I would like to introduce you to the three of them – Oud, Oud Silk Mood, and Oud Satin Mood.

Personally, I find Oud Satin Mood the most gentle of ouds I have tried so far!Β It is so smooth, so powdery and creamy… Beautiful Bulgarian and Turkish roses and vanilla, with a touch of woody note.. Satin Mood is the perfume I would definitely recommend to someone at the early stage, so not to scare them off this note! πŸ™‚ Obviously, as I am trying this in the middle of winter (in Ireland, though…), my nose could be picking up something different, and I cannot wait to test it again during summer months. But for the moment, this perfume is the one to go for if you’re looking for a light and creamy oud (hence, satin? πŸ™‚ )….

To compare the differences, I would like to continue with Oud Silk Mood. Rose and oud are the most distinctive notes for me in this extrait de parfum…But thisΒ beautyΒ is indeed veryΒ dissimilar from Satin Mood. It is bold, daring, out there! Silk Mood is a perfume for an entrance on to the stage! I welcome you, my dear performer! The blend is so right that I want to shield my eyes from the dazzling lights andΒ at the same time I want to keep sniffing my wrists and bury myself under the layers of…well…silk… However, I only feel like wearing it when I want to storm through my challenges in life – and come out of them with a bang! A winner and smelling great! Oh, what a night to remember!

And finally we come to the last of today’s trioΒ – Oud. It is the first in the Oud collection, created in 2012, and comes as eau de parfum (also available in scented body cream). Personally, out of the three I like this fragrance the most. Maybe because it is the most familiar. Or maybe I find the formulation the most satisfying. As it settles on my skin, I feel all I need – a gorgeously gentle blend of oud, saffron and patchouli, with a touch of sweetness at the end of the day – not too much, not too little… Just perfectly warm and balsamic… I am short for words as it is sheer perfection..

All the Oud collection from Maison Francis Kurkdjian is created for both women and men. Whenever you come across it, give it a try, as I am sure you will be carried away to your own personal dimensions, maybe even to Laos.. Just close your eyes and let the imagination run free while you wrap up in each one of the Moods… Give them time, let them grow and blossom on your skin… You never know how they may surprise you…

Lastly, as the new year cycle is here, I want to congratulate you all with this beautiful occasion! πŸ™‚ Be happy, whatever you do. Make the most of it and just Be Happy with whatever comes your way.. ❀
