Weekend with Nejma

With one eclipse behind us and another one on the way, the time in between feels rather tense and sensitive, yet buzzing, even sizzling!

And I am kicking off this February properly – with three new serums from a French niche brand Nejma Collection. Their perfumes are inspired by the Far East and the Oriental Fairy tale about a beautiful, radiant woman called Nejma and her love story. Hence, the name Nejma meaning Lucky Star.

Today I would like to introduce you to Nejma 7, Le Parfum D’Alice, and Le Delicieux.

The other day I shoved a chocolate-coconut cake into the oven and went off to try out the Nejma 7 on my skin. This beauty is one of the seven sisters in the Oud Collection – one of the seven different fragrances based on Oud. So, here I was, rocking Sister Seven, enjoying the freshness of citrus at the beginning, quietly listening how it will develop on my wrist, when a bomb of cacao and coconut hit me! There was so much happiness in this gourmand juice! …and then the timer for the cake went off πŸ˜€ I literary could not believe the weirdest and most delicious coincidence πŸ˜€ Yep, my kitchen and my wrist smelled so alike!

..Nejma 7 is a wonderfully sweet and joyful fragrance, developing really nicely on the skin. Oudy patchouli helps to calm it a little bit for the evening, so the dry-down is purely divine…

Le Parfum D’Alice is my most favourite one from the trio.. It accompanied me through the whole day today and there was never a dull moment. Every time I sniffed my wrist, I was experiencing something totally new.. Every time…

The composition of this fragrance to me is a true masterpiece.. It firstly blossomed on my skin with a bunch of fruits and berries. The next thing I new, the juicy sweetness was blending with joyful peonies and roses…

During the day I felt was like I was at a party, the Mad Hatter’s party πŸ™‚ And there was Alice – like the best friend – laughing, smiling, dancing with me, running wild or just staying still, and watching birds fly by…

And slowly, over time, when the base notes started appearing, I was yet again pleasantly surprised, calmed and re-freshened with touches of vetiver and my beloved patchouli… Funnily enough, I still could not figure out the last addition to this beauty – something known to the very core…but so so quiet…so gentle…like a whiff of warm woody aroma coming from very far away… like a dream that slowly dissipates from your memory upon waking up…leaving just a trail of softly pleasant feeling.Β Cognac oak barrel… What a surprise!

And finnaly, I am closing the night with this sweet juice in a white bottle – the delightfully delicious Le Delicieux.

It is so lovely and comforting.. It reminds me of warm sunny evenings in spring, walks on the beach.. sand running through my toes..

And mandarins, loads of mandarins!… πŸ™‚

Even the coldest beaches in Ireland can transform into something cozy, warming, magical..

Oh, sweet vanilla!

(…There’s a sudden cold gust of wind out of nowhere… So playful! Patchouli?… Sneaky!…)

Then again I am back to soft caramel and touches of rose, like diving into fluffy clouds…

Let me just stay there in that beautiful candy-pink dream…

Good night, beautiful people!… Sweet dreams…

On another note, if you fancy a good read (probably with another cup of tea… πŸ™‚ ), I have found this very interesting interview with Nejma’s perfumer Alice Lavenat. It is fascinating to know a little bit more about the person behind the fragrance, their background, their reasons for certain choices, etc. Definitely worth the read πŸ™‚

P.S. As there is no official stockist for Nejma in Ireland just yet, ordering online from their own website is as easy πŸ™‚ http://nejmacollection.com/shop/

P.S.S. A huge thank you to the team behind Nejma Collection for the perfume samples.Β I truly enjoyed getting to know this Lucky Star πŸ™‚ ❀

Bonjour Project – Day 20

My dear beautiful people,

Today I would like to tell you a little bit about my new discovery – the perfume brand Dorin. This is a very historical perfume house, creating also powders and creams for Versailles since 1780…

I have discovered it very much by accident at one of Kristiana stores, while sniffing never before seen perfumes.. Their bottles are very attractive and quite different from others.. so are their scents.. πŸ™‚

So that day I sniffed the very first one that attracted my eye, Un Air d’Amour Pour Madame. And I could not describe it to you, unfortunately, as I could only carry with me the feeling it had raised inside… This perfume for me associates with a very pleasant lady from my early childhood.. maybe an aunt, or mum’s friend.. I just remember the cozy feeling, the warmth, and that balsamic spicy sweetness… it is amazing how powerful the window of memory is, with the help of a scent transporting you to the worlds long long forgotten…

Another day I went into the Kristiana store in Gediminas avenue, just to give Pour Madame another go.. unfortunately they didn’t have this particular scent in store, but I got to try Dorina… πŸ™‚ now a feeling was completely different – I have never got that much powder in my nose in one go ever before πŸ™‚ oh my!! Pure iris…an amazing quality purple powder!! I was instantly transported to a theatre, behind the stage, into powder rooms, where curtains are heavy and velvety, dark…and I could nearly see it all with my eyes closed, all I needed was to keep sniffing Dorina

I was a little bit more clever that day, and got to spray some of this beauty on my wrist, as well as on a blotter… πŸ˜‰

And when I was about to say goodbye to the store assistant, she casually pointed at another perfume made by Dorin… it was standing on its own beside a very fancy golden case, covered in a huge glass box… Enter Izolda…

Have you heard of Izolda?… She is the wife of the owner of Kristiana; a very well-off gentleman from Lithuania, who gave his wife this incredible gift of creating the perfume she loved; all for their 20th anniversary… and Maison Dorin helped this fragrance come to life…

It is a beautiful, well balanced, sweet and gentle scent, with woody notes.. If you would like to know in person what Izolda smells like, do visit Kristiana on Gediminas avenue. This exclusive perfume is available in this store only… πŸ™‚ and talk about exclusive – with only 200 copies of this gem, it should definitely intrigue you… πŸ˜‰

There’s an interview with Mrs.Izolda in last year’s February issue of Moteris magazine.

And tomorrow I might as well look for another Kristiana store, just in case I discover something new again…

Bonjour Project – Day 20

Message In A Bottle

Dear perfume lovers,

Today I am embracing journeying across the World through the sense of smell…

Taking thyme to think | Β©BonjourPerfume

Well, my nose has quietly betrayed me and I can soothe the respiratory system with some thyme tea, that way giving in to realization that perfume actually has the ability to store memories. And with those memories it carries emotions, feelings, everything personal and ever so powerful. Starting withΒ an individual story behind the purchasing of the bottle and also depending on its further relationship with the owner, the fragrance could turn into a bomb. Of course, the metaphoric one.

Different countries I have been to rewarded me with beautiful perfumes. It did not take long until I started coming back home with a bottle of precious juice instead of a fridge magnet. A bar of chocolate disappears in seconds in this house… a bottle of whiskey or liqueur might take a little longer.. but the holiday memories stored in a bottle of perfume stay around nearly forever..

And months or years later, one of the reasons for one to reapply the perfume bought in London or Paris,Β I think, is to re-experience the precious moments over and over again… There are hundreds and thousands of new fragrances being released each year and, of course, it is close to impossible to try to like them all. That is why, the ones we are lead to by chance, advice, gifting, or inner feeling, on different occasions, are the ones that we unknowingly empower to hold the memories for us. Take water, e.g. – it absorbs everything positive and negative around it, and what is perfume if not water?..

But if there was no emotional attachment to the fragrance, would one still enjoy wearing it?…

My first perfumedΒ journey started with 5th AvenueΒ – a classicΒ by Elizabeth Arden,Β in New York – our first trip away with my husband. Vienna left me speechless with her architecture, music and coffee, and gave me Opium Vapeurs de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent. I felt so happy in Vancouver which gifted meΒ La PanthereΒ byΒ Cartier. Secrets D’Essences NeroliΒ byΒ Yves RocherΒ is a true recollection of an early spring in Sevilla, Spain, because the whole city smells of orange blossoms…

I felt truly spellbound in Lithuania when a store assistant suggested a perfume (it was Rima XIΒ byΒ Carner Barcelona)Β which then opened many doors to my childhood… I was like Marcel Proust in ‘Remembrance of Things Past’ sniffing the blotter, and couldn’t believe my own visions and sensations, it was like an explosion of feelings and memories, especially the smell of a layered honey cake we used to make for a birthday party, or the taste of vanilla ice cream in a huge waffle tub-like cone that I used to buy for a few coins during Soviet times…

Then, the most recent trip we took was to Tenerife, Spain. With its cyan waters and white waves crashing on to the rocks and ash-like beaches, and with the warmth of the sun, I could just stay there listening to the noise of the ocean, learning to stop the time, and just be…. Nothing better could represent the island like the whole range of gorgeous smells from Agua de Tenerife, Playa Paraiso being my favourite yet.

Also, thanks to Amsterdam, Netherlands, I have discoveredΒ RitualsΒ which is a home to beautiful perfume, skin care and cosmetics. With their help I am envisioning another journey to the Orient, the Himalayas, maybe even as far as Japan… The World is so vast, there are so many places to explore, so many new experiences to gain….

There have been many others trips.. So, mostΒ importantly of all, I would like to thank all my friends and Mr.G πŸ™‚ , as without your guidance, help, advice and support these trips wouldn’t have been as exciting and thrilling as they were.

And finally, if you are interested, you are all very welcome to read my three-part series of blog posts called Gemstones of Paris, as they have more in-depth view on this city.

I hope my senses will sharpen soon enough and I will be able to continue ‘sniffing around’ πŸ™‚ until then,

Love In Paris

It is raining outside. The wind is still, leaves barely move. We have loads of trees here. Especially the pines smell nice, they remind me of warm summer evenings..

Feels like autumn is coming slowly but surely..

I have looked through the fragrances in my drawer this morning – which one of them I would like to stay with me for the rest of the day? Which one would be warm but not too sweet, grounding but not too overpowering..?
